Looking for documentation on reduced lifespan of heat pumps due to low water flow?

All:  I am looking for any kind of paper or evaluation on the potential lifespan reduction of compressors within heat pumps, and peripheral stress on TXV or other refrigeration circuit components due to chronic low water flow (clogged strainers, air in hydronic system, etc.) resulting in recurring nuisance lockouts.  Opinions based on actual service experience also welcome.  Anything that can provide a justifiable estimate of lifespan reduction of a heat pump would be appreciated.

Have a forensic situation for a school with this situation; they are cleaning up the crud in the hydronic system but there is so much of it after x amount of years they are still getting contamination (very large school with large S/R mains).  Have added filtration plant on GHX side but still not getting all of the interior debris due to piping configuration - debris is not going back the loopfield, just the heat pumps.  Have tried searching on the ASHRAE site for this kind of information, if something relevant exists I cannot locate it - either not searching correctly or otherwise operator error.  Thx, Terry
