Mr. Smith started his career in the energy business in 1972 working in the oil and gas industry. In 1979 he started Applied Drilling Services (ADS) to manage O&G properties, provide design/management services for deep/hot drilling projects, and fluid systems for high temperature drilling. Later, ADS provided management and technical expertise for production applications.
In 1997 he became a founding Principal of Sound Geothermal Corporation. He currently serves as SGT's President and CEO. SGT is a design engineering firm, manufacturer's representative, and distributor for ground source heat pump (GSHP) equipment and accessories. SGT is a pioneer in development of hybrid GeoExchange systems and community hybrid systems. SGT specializes in energy efficient building systems and waste energy recovery (WER). Their projects include HUD housing, municipal and industrial facilities, schools, and both conventional and high-end housing. SGT provides consulting services to building owners/operators tailored to reducing cost and optimizing building operation and control.
Since 2002, SGT has been involved with multi-building WER systems utilizing GSHPs and borehole thermal storage mated with conventional and renewable technologies. These systems are designed and operated with a goal to reduce energy consumption, demand, and operating costs.
